Q: What is the most important question
to ask when considering a prospective Beauty school?
A: Is the school accredited by the National Accrediting Commission
of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences. This organization is recognized
by the United States Department of Education as one of the
national accrediting agencies for cosmetology schools.
Q: Once you graduate from the program,
will you get a license?
A: To get your license, you must pass an examination by
the state board. Ask to see the school's passing rate. All
throughout the course, you prepare for the exam. Ask how many
"mock board exams" are included through out your course. These
exams help prepare you for the boards and you will see what
is expected from you.
Q: Tell me about the classes. What
should I expect?
A: Make sure classes are diversified. You should not be stuck
in one classroom all day. You should expect to have lectures,
but also have live demonstrations, guest speakers, videos
and practical applications.
Q: What is there a minimum age to
enroll?
A: You must be at least 16 years of age to begin training.
Q: Do you need a high school diploma?
A: No, but if you don't have one, you'll need a GED certificate.
Q: Do they offer financial aid?
A: A recognized and accredited school will. Both private
and government programs should be available. The government
programs are based on need. Most private programs are very
flexible and can be tailored to your individual requirements.
Q: Will they help me find a job
once I get my license?
A: A well respected school offers Lifetime Placement Assistance.
While most can not guarantee you a job, they should help you
find your first position and every other job throughout your
career. In fact, some companies specifically request graduates
from high ranking schools.
